The flora of Langkawi is an attempt of one humble person to document the plants found in these 104 islands of the Langkawi Archipelago. This website will be a journal to my work which I hope to one day publish. During the past 6 years of my work on the plants of Langkawi I believe I have unfold a number of plants that had remained undescribed by anyone before me. I will in time put this up on this website for people in authority to view and provide their comments on this and eventually publish it in any journal that would be willing to publish it for me.

Flora of a place is defined as a monograph or a book describing systemetically all the plants which can be found in the particular place regardless of whether they are native or introduced.

In describing the plants I shall include the standard pointers as per used by other authors of such extensive works as follows

1. The scientific name and its citation; other synonyms and local name in Langkawi.
2. Description of the vegetative and reproductive features. I would also include in the description the use of our perceptive senses in recognizing the plants i.e texture, smell, taste, colour.
3. Key to identification of Family, Genera and Species
4. Photographic illustrations to complement the description
5. Local and worldwide distribution
6. Habitat
7. Flowering and fruiting seasons
8. Economic uses

This is indeed a very ambitious  project for one person to handle, but then I do not see many who would want to take the pain of doing this. Yet this needs to be done sooner than later. Development has destroyed much of the biodiversity of Langkawi and if not documented now some of the yet undescribe plants would then be lost forever; destroyed by the wheels of progress.
